Navigating Real Beauty

by Judy Griffin on August 17, 2013

“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows and the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.” ~ Audrey Hepburn

Taking an exhilarating bike ride to gorgeous spots like Montauk Point makes me feel fit and fabulous.

Relaxing & feeling loved makes be feel beautiful. Please share below what makes you feel beautiful.

With the news and entertainment industry’s laser focus on external beauty, feeling beautiful can be challenging. This emphasis really isn’t healthy since it encourages women to chase a fleeting fountain of youth while placing too much importance on the package rather then what’s inside.

Now, I believe we can feel forever young but we can’t look forever young. But by making nourishing choices we can defy age, reclaim our youthful vitality, feel fit and fabulous and embrace what really makes us beautiful.

Beauty truly is an inside job!  I encourage women to celebrate their age and embrace their innate gifts. We often overlook these gifts as young women but as we mature and develop we have the opportunity to connect with our essence and discover the many gifts that make us special.

I think it’s so sad when I hear women say that their best days are over or it doesn’t matter what they wear. That just tells me that they haven’t unwrapped all of their gifts yet. Wonderful attributes like confidence, wisdom, sensuality, security, strength, individuality, athletic ability, grace, generosity, compassion, success, friendship, courage, love, tenacity, integrity, resilience, buoyancy, motherhood and so many more. Cherish the many gifts you possess because these are what truly make you beautiful.

One of the best things about aging gracefully is that you can dare to feel beautiful. For instance I may not resemble a 20 something perfectly fit and firm young women but when I put on my bikini I feel absolutely beautiful and sexy. No mind that my stomach jiggles a bit, I just focus on how it makes me feel and remember that my beautiful belly gave me four gorgeous children.

Hanging on the beach in a bikini always feels so good.

Hanging on the beach in a bikini always feels so good.

When do you feel beautiful? This is such an important question. We all must seek out what makes us feel gorgeous, happy, and hot. I feel beautiful when I make time for me and nourish myself with delicious foods, strengthen by body with yoga, swim, dive into waves, run on the beach, or take a scenic bike ride.  I feel beautiful when my husband kisses me passionately or when my kids smile and hug me.  I feel beautiful when I guide others on a flourishing path.

On my quest to help women Nourish to Flourish I typically start with nourishing foods.  How we choose to nourish ourselves plays a big role in how we live our life. For example, when we choose nutrient dense flavorful food that pleasures our palette we feel satiated and vibrant.  On the other hand, when we fuel ourselves with refined foods and caffeine, we wind up feeling moody, strung out, and fatigued. Clearly, this isn’t a path for thriving or for real beauty.

Honor your body with the taste, pleasure, and nourishment real food offers. To support you in this endeavor, I have created a Fabulous Fall Flourish that offers you scrumptious recipes and a nourishing path for real beauty inside and out.

Visit my Fabulous Fall Flourish to learn more about this online eating for wellness program.

Now for a chance at winning a free spot in my Fall Flourish please share what makes you feel beautiful?

Really awesome article, Judy! And I so love the photos!! What makes me feel beautiful is when I love myself. And what I mean by that is when I actually accept and love myself as I am- then I allow myself to be me. When I am ‘me’, life is much, much easier and much more fun. I am not wearing any masks or hiding behind any games. I am just ‘me’. Then I fall in love with myself over and over and feel great. It is feeling great from the inside that allows me to feel beautiful from the outside. Thanks for the post! Elizabeth

I feel beautiful when I am happy and peaceful – during yoga practice, walking on the beach with my sons, looking at pictures of memories, spending time with loved ones, reading outside in the sunshine. Feeling the wind off the ocean as it blows my hair, snuggling with my honey watching a movie, hugging my boys, visiting my boyfriend’s mom in the nursing home and holding her hand. So many things make me feel beautiful inside and I feel like it shines through to the outside. Thanks for the reminder to look at all that instead of the wrinkles or the jiggly belly! You made me smile.
